New correctional facilities are being built as part of the upgrade of existing infrastructure.

Azerbaijan's Minister of Justice Farid Ahmadov said this in an interview with Report and İTV.

He emphasized that construction of a new correctional facility designed for 2,000 inmates has already begun in Garadagh.

"At the same time, the construction of a new correctional facility in Umbaki on a 35-hectare site, designed for 6,000-7,000 inmates, is being planned. In addition, the construction of a correctional facility in Ganja is envisaged. Thus, in order to upgrade the existing infrastructure, we have set the goal of commissioning new correctional facilities designed for approximately 11,000 inmates in the future. The completion of these projects is planned by 2030," the head of the ministry said.

F. Ahmadov added that these correctional facilities will fully comply with modern standards.

"The creation of both new vocational education infrastructure and mechanisms for monitoring inmates using digital tools — facial recognition systems and other technological solutions — is envisaged here. This, in turn, will make an important contribution to the rehabilitation process," he noted.
