A resolution co-authored by Azerbaijan has been adopted at the UN Human Rights Council
A resolution co-authored by Azerbaijan has been adopted at the UN Human Rights Council.
This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is noted that within the framework of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, held in Geneva, the resolution "The impact of anti-personnel mines on the full enjoyment of human rights: strengthening assistance to victims" was adopted, with Azerbaijan acting as one of its co-authors and active supporters.
70 states joined the resolution as co-authors, and the document was adopted without a vote.
Azerbaijan organized a public dialogue within the framework of the session to support and promote this important joint initiative on the agenda, and also acted as a co-organizer of a side event dedicated to this topic.
Being one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world, Azerbaijan suffers from the problem created by anti-personnel mines. Anti-personnel mines and unexploded ordnance have a long-term and severe impact on the full realization of human rights, causing harm to the lives of victims and their family members.
It is noted that mine action is one of the fundamental elements of sustainable peace and plays an important role in the post-conflict recovery process. Demining, by creating conditions for the safe and dignified return of former internally displaced persons to their homes, also makes a significant contribution to the recovery of conflict-affected territories and communities, as well as to ensuring socio-economic development.
