Azerbaijani serviceman Nasimi Musayev, who crossed the Armenian border and was detained in the settlement of Sheki (Zangezur), will remain in Armenia for at least some time.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Armenian media, this was stated by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"The procedures in our criminal case will take place in Armenia. And for at least some time he will remain in Armenia. An investigation is underway, he is currently under arrest," said the head of government.

Regarding the possible exchange of the Azerbaijani soldier, Pashinyan hinted that this would most likely not happen. "And if tomorrow our soldier crosses [to the Azerbaijani side], who would we hand over then?" he stated.

The Prime Minister also confirmed that the search for Musayev had been conducted for several days, including with the use of drones. However, due to the very difficult terrain, he was not detected. "Of course, a detailed investigation must be conducted into how it happened that he crossed [to the Armenian side]," Pashinyan said.

As for the question of why the residents of the village of Sheki were not warned in a timely manner, the Prime Minister noted that there was no evidence that this soldier had crossed into Armenian territory. According to him, what is important is that the Azerbaijani side not only informed but also remained in constant contact with the Armenian side during the search operations.

Pashinyan emphasized that criminal proceedings have also been initiated in Azerbaijan against this serviceman under the article on desertion. The Prime Minister stated that the Azerbaijani serviceman who harmed a person in Armenia will be convicted, as this is a legal matter.
