Important rules have been adopted in Azerbaijan regarding citizens' salaries
Introduction of minimum wage by sectors in Azerbaijan can contribute to income growth for certain categories of citizens.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated by a member of the Milli Mejlis, member of the Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship Vugar Bayramov in his commentary to Oxu.Az.
According to him, the average monthly salary in the country is about 1,100 manats, however, in a number of enterprises, this figure exceeds the average level by three to four times. The significant difference in wages, according to the deputy, makes the issue of establishing a minimum wage taking into account industries relevant. He noted that such an approach will allow increasing the income of low-paid workers in companies with high earnings and reducing the level of discrimination in the payment system.
Vugar Bayramov also pointed out existing cases where employees holding the same positions in one institution receive different salaries. In this context, he emphasized the importance of re-approving the Unified Tariff Table, which, in his opinion, will help optimize wages in the public sector and reduce the gap between similar positions.
Meanwhile, economist-expert Khalid Kerimli holds the opposite view. In a comment to Oxu.Az, he stated that introducing a minimum wage by sectors is a wrong step and will not have a significant impact on the labor market. In his opinion, hourly wages are a more effective tool.
The expert noted that the wage level is formed under the influence of market mechanisms, demand for personnel, and economic conditions, and additional regulation can lead to unjustified intervention. He also added that the Unified Tariff Table is currently undergoing an improvement process and will be updated taking into account existing realities.
