Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have completed a key stage of laying the cable across the Caspian Sea

Kazakhstan has completed a key stage in the construction of the Trans-Caspian fiber-optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea - the submarine cable, laid along the Aktau - Sumgayit route, has reached the Kazakhstani coast.

According to the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan, the project is being implemented by Kazakhtelecom JSC and AzerTelecom International.

The new trunk line will connect the digital infrastructures of the two countries, providing a direct high-speed data transmission channel between Asia and Europe. The line is expected to enhance the reliability of international communications and strengthen the transit potential of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

The laying of the cable along the seabed began in July 2026 and was carried out around the clock using a specialized vessel with a displacement of more than 20,000 tons. Seventy specialists were involved in the work. Currently, the cable is being connected to the onshore infrastructure. Completion of the construction of onshore facilities, commissioning work, and system testing are scheduled for autumn.

Responsibility for the construction and operation of the line lies with CaspiLink B.V. - a joint venture of Kazakhtelecom and AzerTelecom International. Financing is provided from the operators' own funds without the use of budget funds.
