WHO warned of threat of nuclear incident in the Middle East
The danger of war in the Middle East has reached an extremely alarming stage: strikes have been reported on the uranium enrichment complex in Iran's Natanz and on the Israeli city of Dimona, where a nuclear facility is located.
This was stated by the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
According to him, the organization is studying the events that occurred the day before in southeastern Iran and in Israel's Dimona.
"No reports of any abnormal or elevated radiation levels outside the facility have been received. Attacks on nuclear facilities pose a growing threat to public health and environmental safety."
Ghebreyesus noted that since the beginning of hostilities, the WHO has conducted important training sessions for its staff and UN personnel in 13 countries so that in the event of a nuclear incident, they could effectively respond to public health threats:
"I urge all parties to exercise maximum military restraint and refrain from any actions that could lead to a nuclear incident. Leaders must prioritize de-escalation and the protection of civilian populations."
