In August 2026, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) carried out an intervention in the foreign exchange market to purchase currency in the amount of 1.5 billion US dollars.

As reported by the CBA, the intervention was carried out under conditions of supply exceeding demand in the foreign exchange market against the backdrop of a surplus in the current account of the balance of payments and the ongoing process of de-dollarization in the financial sector.

As a result, over the elapsed period, the regulator's foreign exchange reserves increased by 3.8 billion dollars (or by 33%), reaching a historic high of 15.3 billion dollars.

It is not ruled out that the foreign currency purchased on the market will be fully or partially redirected back to the market in the future to ensure balance depending on the emerging demand.
