WHO warned of sharp rise in antibiotic-resistant infections

Infectious diseases in humans worldwide are increasingly failing to respond to standard antibiotics.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to TASS, this was announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to the organization's statement, in 2023, one in six laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with common bacterial infections proved to be resistant to antibiotic treatment.
The new WHO report notes that from 2018 to 2023, more than 40% of the tracked "pathogen-antibiotic" combinations showed an increase in resistance, with their proportion increasing by 5-15% annually on average.
The highest rates were recorded in the countries of Southeast Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean, where a third of infection cases were resistant to antibiotics. In Africa, this figure was about 20%.
