Trump: India's Prime Minister has virtually halted oil purchases from Russia
US President Donald Trump claims that India has largely stopped purchasing Russian oil.
As reported by BAKU.WS, he stated this while speaking with journalists at the White House.
The American leader said that his trade negotiations with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are going "excellently."
"[Indian companies] have largely stopped buying oil from Russia. He [Narendra Modi] is my friend. He wants me to visit there," Trump said, promising that he would make a visit to India. When asked to clarify if this would happen in 2026, he replied: "Possibly, yes."
Recall that on August 6, the US imposed additional tariffs of 25% on India in connection with its purchase of Russian oil and petroleum products. At the end of August, tariffs on imports of Indian goods and services were raised to 50%. India's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called these actions unfair.
On October 15, Trump stated that Modi had personally informed him about New Delhi's readiness to stop purchasing Russian oil.
