Whitkoff called President Ilham Aliyev an example of true state leadership
US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff highly appreciated the position and actions of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during the settlement of the conflict with Armenia, which lasted for more than thirty years.
As BAKU.WS reports, he stated this in an interview with host Bret Baier on Fox News.
According to the American politician, during a meeting in the Oval Office, US President Donald Trump asked the Azerbaijani leader why he stopped the offensive despite having a military advantage. President Ilham Aliyev, as Whitcoff noted, responded that his goal was only to return the territories that were under occupation, and he did not seek more.
Whitcoff emphasized that such a decision was a manifestation of maturity and an example of true state thinking. According to him, Ilham Aliyev preferred to stop after achieving a just goal.
Trump's special envoy added that the actions of the President of Azerbaijan are a model of responsible leadership and can serve as an example for other world leaders involved in protracted conflicts.
