The US Senate rejected the government finance bill for the 14th time
The US Senate for the 14th time in recent weeks has rejected a Republican Party-proposed bill to provide funding for the federal government, which is now partially shut down.
As reported by BAKU.WS, during the procedural vote, the document previously approved by the House of Representatives was supported by 54 members of the upper chamber of Congress, with 44 senators voting against it.
60 votes are required to approve the bill. If the bill is not approved by Congress and signed by US President Donald Trump by 21:23 local time (06:23 on November 5 in Baku), the current government shutdown will become the longest in the country's history.
The US government was shut down at midnight on October 1 (08:00 in Baku) due to lack of funding. This happened because representatives of the ruling Republican and opposition Democratic parties in Congress could not reach an agreement on a number of expenditure items, including healthcare. They still cannot reach agreements. Democrats and Republicans blame each other for provoking the shutdown and prolonging it for political purposes.
