Shabnam Hasanova: Azerbaijan did not provide its territory for attacks on Iran, but itself was hit by a drone
Iran's actions indicate that it seeks to expand the zone of military operations and thereby drag Azerbaijan into these processes.
BAKU.WS was told this by Shabnam Hasanova, Doctor of Philosophy in Political Sciences, political analyst.
According to her, this is an attempt to involve Azerbaijan in the ongoing processes and is, in essence, a stab in the back.
"Azerbaijan has repeatedly and openly stated over many years that it will not allow its territory to be used for an attack on Iran. As soon as the war began, Azerbaijan ensured the safe transit of citizens of various countries through its territory. Following this, the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, demonstrating state ethics, expressed his condolences to Iran," the political analyst noted.
The expert added that from the very beginning of the hostilities, we once again outlined our position: under no circumstances would a strike be launched against Iran from our territory.
"Moreover, we closed our airspace to the United States and Israel. However, today Iran's actions indicate that it seeks to expand the zone of military operations and thereby drag Azerbaijan into these processes. This is an extremely misguided step.
The head of our state has repeatedly emphasized that every state must think about security along its borders and act prudently when making decisions in this direction, taking measured steps. Iran's drone strike on Nakhchivan is a misguided action. This is an attempt to involve Azerbaijan in the processes and, in essence, a stab in the back of Azerbaijan. Iran has shown ingratitude. Various incidents can occur during war, however, when making decisions and especially when carrying out strikes, there is and can be no justification for such attacks — especially given the position that Azerbaijan demonstrated and the steps it took," Shabnam Hasanova concluded.
