The naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of Iran's armed forces) launched a missile strike on an American oil tanker on Thursday morning.
This was reported by the IRGC press service.
"Early this morning, this oil tanker in the northern part of the Persian Gulf was struck by fighters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Naval Forces and is currently on fire," the Iranian state broadcasting company quoted the statement as saying.
As the IRGC noted, the Strait of Hormuz is under Iran's control and any vessels associated with the United States or Israel will not be granted passage.
