Trump wants to personally participate in choosing the next leader of Iran
US President Donald Trump on March 5 expressed his desire to personally participate in the process of determining Iran's future leader.
He made this statement in an interview with the Axios portal.
"They're wasting time. Khamenei's son [Mojtaba Khamenei] is a lightweight. I should be involved in the appointment, like I was with [Venezuelan President] Delcy [Rodriguez]," the head of the White House noted.
According to him, Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the slain Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is an unacceptable candidate. Trump emphasized that continuing the previous course would force the US to return to war "in five years."
"We want someone who will bring harmony and peace to Iran," the American leader added.
On the same day, a member of the presidium of the Assembly of Experts on Leadership, which handles the elections, Mohsen Qomi stated that the process of selecting Iran's new supreme leader is in its final stage. He also urged the Iranian people to ignore rumors and obtain information exclusively through the presidium of the Assembly of Experts.
