Trump announces negotiations with Moscow and Kiev

In an interview with Fox News, US President Donald Trump made an important statement about developing diplomatic relations with key geopolitical players.
"We had a very tense weekend," the American leader emphasized. "We are dealing with Israel. We are dealing with Ukraine and Russia. We have meetings and negotiations planned with various parties, including Ukraine and Russia."
Notably, the White House head has repeatedly shown openness to dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, not ruling out the possibility of a personal meeting. The Russian leader, in turn, has also expressed readiness for constructive dialogue.
Currently, there have been no official announcements about specific arrangements regarding a meeting or phone call between the leaders.
Ukraine's Demands
In Kyiv, Trump's initiatives are viewed with caution. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed concern that Ukraine might be excluded from negotiations between the US and Russia. In an interview with Associated Press, he emphasized that direct discussions between Kyiv and Washington are crucial. He added that not only Ukraine but possibly the European Union should participate in negotiations.
According to the Ukrainian leader, his meeting with the US president is needed first. Zelenskyy noted that "everyone in Europe wants this."
"[After talking with Trump] we should move to some format of conversation with the Russians. And I would like to see the United States, Ukraine, and Russians at the negotiating table... And honestly, the EU's voice should be there too. I think this would be fair and effective," Zelenskyy said.
Ukrainian Presidential Advisor Dmytro Lytvyn criticized US proposals for holding elections in Ukraine by year's end. He called such a plan "failed" without additional security guarantees. Lytvyn emphasized that Ukraine cannot agree to conditions that don't ensure reliable protection from "Russian threats."
"If the plan is limited to just a ceasefire and elections - that's not enough. Putin won't be intimidated by these two steps," said Zelenskyy's advisor.
Trump's Peace Plan Leaks
Last week, Ukrainian publication "Strana.ua" published an alleged "100-day plan" by the Trump administration to end the conflict. The plan includes three main conditions: Ukraine's renunciation of NATO membership aspirations, gradual lifting of sanctions on Russia over three years after signing the agreement, and a ceasefire across Ukraine by April 20 with subsequent troop withdrawal from certain regions.
Zelenskyy expressed support for some of these proposals. The plan also envisions holding an international peace conference in late April and elections in Ukraine in August and October 2025.
Trump expressed hope for achieving "significant" results after talking with Putin, emphasizing that the US is conducting "serious discussions" with Moscow about ending the conflict. However, he did not reveal details of these discussions.
US Presidential Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg told Fox that Trump's team has a reliable plan for ending hostilities and starting peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. He emphasized that Trump "knows where to push, where not to push," and will create leverage for both Ukrainians and Russians.
