The US has prepared a plan for a short and powerful wave of strikes against Iran
The US has prepared a plan to deliver a "short and powerful" wave of strikes against Iran in hopes of breaking the deadlock in negotiations.
This was reported by the Axios portal citing sources.
The portal notes, citing statements by President Donald Trump, that Washington has effectively rejected Iran's proposed three-stage plan under which it was willing to negotiate with the US. "Trump rejects Iran's offer to open the Strait of Hormuz and lift the naval blockade and postpone nuclear negotiations to a later date," the portal writes.
According to Axios sources, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has prepared a plan for a "short and powerful" wave of strikes against Iran, including strikes on civilian infrastructure facilities. After delivering the strikes, the US expects to "put pressure" on the Iranian leadership so that it "returns to the negotiating table and shows greater flexibility."
As the portal writes, Trump at this stage "views the naval blockade as the main leverage" against Tehran, but "will consider the possibility of military action."
