Astana will continue investigating the AZAL plane crash after statements from Moscow and Baku

The Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan is not ceasing the investigation into the crash of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) JSC aircraft near Aktau airport in 2024 following the joint statement by the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Russia on the settlement of consequences. The ministry will follow procedures and will also publish a report with conclusions and recommendations based on the results of the investigation.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Oxu.Az, this was communicated by TASS from Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport.

"Currently, the commission investigating the aviation accident involving the Embraer 190 4K-AZ65 aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines continues its work in accordance with the standards and recommended practices established by Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation. Upon completion of the investigation, the final report will be published on the official website of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The report will reflect the established causes of the aviation accident, as well as the conclusions and recommendations of the commission," the ministry stated in response to the question of whether the investigation is planned to continue or be terminated following the statement by the foreign affairs agencies.

It should be recalled that on December 25, 2024, an AZAL Embraer 190 aircraft operating flight J2-8243 Baku–Grozny crashed 3 km from Aktau in Kazakhstan.

There were 67 people on board the aircraft (62 passengers, 5 crew members), including 42 citizens of Azerbaijan (37 passengers, 5 crew members), 16 of Russia, 6 of Kazakhstan, and 3 of Kyrgyzstan. As a result of the disaster, 38 people died and 29 survived.

On January 7, 2025, the opening of the aircraft's black boxes was completed in Brazil. The obtained data was sent to Kazakhstan. On February 4, 2025, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan published a preliminary report on the crash investigation. The report presented a chronology of events and photographs of the damage.
