The first cruise liner ventured through the Strait of Hormuz
The cruise liner Celestyal Discovery changed its route and crossed the Strait of Hormuz instead of making a planned call at the Omani port of Khasab.
This was reported by TASS.
According to the agency, this is the first passenger vessel to pass through the strait since the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
The vessel crossed the strait at 18:55 Baku time, staying approximately three kilometers from the coast of Oman. By 19:30 Baku time, the liner continued moving south. The routing documentation now lists the Omani port of Muscat at the exit of the Gulf of Oman as the port of arrival.
According to the agency's estimates, in March six more cruise liners remained stranded in the Persian Gulf. Among them are MSC Euribia by MSC Cruises, Mein Schiff 4 and Mein Schiff 5 by TUI Cruises, a second Celestyal Cruises vessel — Journey, as well as the liner Aroya belonging to a Saudi company. In total, these vessels can accommodate approximately 17,000 people.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the Islamic Republic had decided to open the strait for the duration of the ceasefire. Hostilities were suspended at midnight on April 16, and the ceasefire will remain in effect for 10 days.
