Scientists have recorded a magnetic storm on Earth of almost maximum level
One of the strongest magnetic storms of recent years was recorded on Earth - its level almost reached the maximum category G5. This was reported by specialists from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
As BAKU.WS reports with reference to Gazeta.ru, according to scientists, such powerful geomagnetic activity is due to the approach to Earth of the first of three plasma clouds that emerged after a series of solar flares. It is noted that the development of the storm turned out to be much stronger than forecasts: earlier, only a slight disturbance of level G1–G2 was expected.
According to specialists' calculations, the peak impact is expected in the middle of the day and will coincide with the approach of the third plasma ejection.
Experts explained that the abnormally high intensity is due to the fact that the plasma cloud from the most powerful flare that occurred the day before moved at a record speed and caught up with slower ejections, forming a dense front before it. As a result of their interaction, temperature, density, and magnetic parameters sharply increased, which led to such a strong storm.
The laboratory reminded that solar flares and the accompanying magnetic storms can cause failures in navigation and energy systems, disrupt industrial networks, and affect animal migration routes. At the same time, scientists emphasize that there is no direct evidence of the negative impact of such phenomena on human health yet.
