Netflix acknowledged the massive use of AI in its film projects

Netflix has publicly revealed for the first time how deeply artificial intelligence has penetrated its production.

This is reported by kinonews.ru, citing the company's quarterly report.

According to the document, generative AI was used in approximately 300 film projects hosted on the platform — from large-scale historical scenes to concept art and post-production.

CEO Ted Sarandos explained that the technology is applied to scenes that otherwise simply would not have made it into the final cut — mass battles, development of fictional worlds, complex visual effects involving large groups of characters.

"Many films and series would not have been able to use these scenes because they couldn't afford them, either in terms of budget or timeline," he acknowledged. As an example, Sarandos cited the upcoming series "The American Experiment," where 17 minutes of screen time were created twice as fast and at half the cost compared to what traditional methods would have allowed.

According to the management, AI covers all stages: from pre-visualization and concept development to final processing and release. The platform is consistently expanding its AI initiatives.

The fact that the count is in the hundreds of titles means that among them there are inevitably works by prominent directors. The names will likely remain undisclosed: the creators, it seems, are not eager to become participants in public debates about the ethics of AI in cinema.

Meanwhile, Netflix shares fell to a 52-week low amid the second-quarter earnings report.

"By arming creators with these tools, we are expanding their capabilities and achieving a higher return on every dollar invested in content," Sarandos directly stated the company's position.
