Doctors warned about the consequences of the habit of sitting with legs crossed
People who habitually sit for long periods with one leg crossed over the other may face negative health consequences from this position, HuffPost reports, citing physical therapists Valerie Rogers, Ethan Triplett, and Alex Hill.
Rogers noted that prolonged time spent in this position reduces the activity of muscles responsible for proper posture.
According to Triplett, the habit of sitting with crossed legs can lead to back and neck pain, as well as pelvic misalignment.
Hill said the main problem is not the position of a seated person's legs, but rather remaining in one position for a long time without movement. The medical professionals recommended regularly changing positions and taking breaks every half hour to reduce strain on muscles and joints.
