In the USA, a major company hired a million robots
Robotization in the American retail giant Amazon has reached a milestone: the company's fleet of autonomous machines has exceeded 1 million units. They work side by side with 1.56 million employees, but the balance is rapidly changing. In recent years, the number of people per warehouse has decreased to 670 - the lowest figure since 2005. Gizmodo reported on the event, citing data from the Wall Street Journal.
The technological breakthrough has radically changed logistics. Today, 75% of Amazon orders are processed with the participation of robots, and productivity per employee has increased 22 times: from 175 to 3,870 packages daily. However, there has been no improvement in working conditions. A University of Illinois study found that 41% of warehouse workers sustain work-related injuries, and 69% are forced to take unpaid leave for recovery.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy confirmed the strategy in a letter to staff: the integration of AI and robots will lead to job cuts. Instead of improving conditions, the company is focusing on completely replacing humans. Humanoid robots for delivery and systems controlled by voice commands are already being tested.
