World 11

The United Arab Emirates agreed to unblock a sum of 10-20 billion dollars for Iran. The condition of the deal was Tehran's cessation of strikes on the territory of the emirates.

This was reported by Reuters, citing four informed sources.

According to available data, the first tranche of 3 billion dollars has already been transferred to the Iranian side. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official denial, characterizing the information as false; nevertheless, the agency's sources continue to assert that their data is reliable.

As Reuters clarifies, the transferred funds may represent either the UAE's own financial resources or Iranian assets that had been in a frozen state for an extended period within the emirates' banking system. In return, the Islamic Republic committed to abandoning missile and drone attacks on UAE territory. In addition, both sides expressed their intention to resume bilateral engagement, encompassing the exchange of intelligence information and the development of economic ties.

"One of the sources reported that as reciprocal obligations for the payments made, Tehran commits to ceasing missile and drone strikes on the UAE, and bilateral cooperation will also be established, including the exchange of intelligence data and the strengthening of economic contacts," the agency reports.

An official representative of the emirates confirmed the course toward de-escalation, noting that the state's foreign policy strategy is oriented toward reducing the level of tensions and promoting peaceful resolution.

At the same time, following the publication, the UAE's foreign affairs ministry issued an official statement characterizing the information about the transfer of funds as "completely false and without foundation." Despite this, Reuters' sources continue to stand by their claims.

Tehran, according to available information, has made proposals for concluding similar agreements with at least two more Persian Gulf states.

In addition, supplementary sources indicate that the UAE unfroze and transferred to Iran several billion dollars' worth of previously blocked assets, as well as 2 tons of gold valued at approximately 283 million dollars — all for the purpose of ensuring protection against potential attacks from Tehran. The valuable cargo was delivered to Iranian territory aboard a Boeing 737-7KK aircraft with tail number A6-RJA, belonging to the UAE-based airline RoyalJet.
