In Iran police show solidarity with protesters
In the Iranian city of Abdanan, an unprecedented case was recorded when police officers from the roof of a building applauded and welcomed demonstrators protesting against the ruling regime.
As BAKU.WS reports with reference to the Bild Telegram channel, this event, captured on video and distributed by several independent journalists, could be an important signal of a growing split within the power structures of the Islamic Republic.
It is noted that such behavior by law enforcement officers indicates serious instability of the regime and gives hope for a possible transition of some security forces to the side of the protesters.
Mass anti-government demonstrations have been continuing in Iran for several days. Tens of thousands of citizens take to the streets, fearlessly chanting slogans "Death to the dictator!" and other anti-government calls, despite the real threat to their lives.
Since December 29, at least 29 people have died as a result of violent clashes with security forces. The situation is especially severe in areas where the Kurdish minority lives, whose representatives make up a significant number of victims.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has been in power since 1989, is trying to demonstrate strength and control over the situation, however, according to analysts, his positions are becoming increasingly shaky. Notably, according to information published by the authoritative British newspaper The Times, Khamenei is already considering the option of an emergency escape to Moscow along with his closest circle and significant financial assets.
