Media: American military captured Russian tanker Marinera in the Atlantic
After more than a two-week chase, American special forces boarded the Russian tanker Marinera in the Atlantic Ocean. The US European Command officially announced the detention of the vessel and crew. The raid took place when the ship was about 4,000 km away from the US coast.
This was reported by Fox News journalist Lucas Tomlinson.
What is known about the Marinera seizure at the moment:
- The operation involved a US patrol aircraft, a refueling aircraft, and a British Boeing, while several US special purpose Pilatus U-28A Draco aircraft were in the area;
- The tanker came under Russian jurisdiction to bypass the Venezuela blockade - the crew registered in Sochi and changed the name, flying the Russian flag. The US European Command stated that they arrested the tanker for violating American sanctions;
- Western media claim that Russian military vessels are allegedly located near the tanker. However, Fox News reports that the United States intercepted the vessel at a time when Russian ships had not yet arrived in the detention zone for escort.
