In California, a man contracted plague from a flea

A California resident contracted plague after being bitten by an infected flea while camping near South Lake Tahoe, reports LA Times.
Medical professionals note that the man tested positive for plague, and the cause could have been an infected flea that may have bitten him while camping at Lake Tahoe.
The infected man is being treated at home under medical supervision. Doctors urge people not to panic: plague is successfully treated nowadays, and outbreaks are extremely rare.
Acting head of the county health department Kyle Fliplet noted that the plague pathogen is present in several areas of California, including the highland regions near Lake Tahoe. In this regard, authorities have asked residents to take preventive measures, especially during walks and hikes.
This is the first case of plague infection in El Dorado County since 2020 and another in a series of isolated cases registered this year in the western United States.
