The death toll from the powerful earthquake in Indonesia has risen to five people.

As reported by The Straits Times, the corresponding information was announced by the governor of East Nusa Tenggara province.

According to his statement, all the deceased were buried under the debris of collapsed residential buildings. Damage to residential houses, administrative buildings, as well as a number of infrastructure facilities has been recorded on the island.

According to the agency, a man and a woman were killed as a result of the earthquake. Information about other victims and the extent of the damage will be reported later.

A powerful earthquake struck near the coast of Indonesia. The initial tremor was followed by aftershocks, with one of them reaching a magnitude of 6.1. Residents of the coast of Flores Island were advised to leave their homes and stay at least 2 km from the coastline due to the threat of a tsunami.
