Who benefits from eating avocado in the evening?

An evening snack with avocado can have a beneficial effect on blood fat levels the next morning - especially in people with glucose metabolism disorders. This conclusion was reached by scientists from the Illinois Institute of Technology (USA). The results of the study were published in the journal Current Developments in Nutrition (CDN).
The experiment involved 27 adults with prediabetes. On different evenings, they ate one of three types of snacks: avocado, a low-fat snack with low fiber content, or a processed product with fat and fiber levels comparable to avocado.
Snacks were offered between 8:00 and 9:00 PM, after which participants observed a 12-hour fast and received a standard breakfast in the morning. Levels of triglycerides, glucose, insulin, and inflammatory markers were measured before and after eating.
The analysis showed that consuming avocado in the evening reduces the level of triglycerides (including cholesterol) in the blood. The effect becomes especially noticeable three hours after breakfast. A slight decrease is observed in the morning on an empty stomach.
According to the study leader, Professor Britt Burton-Freeman, this reaction can be explained by the unique composition of avocado and the peculiarities of its nutritional structure, which support heart health and regulate fat metabolism.
The results call into question the widespread belief about the harm of evening snacks. According to scientists, late food intake can be not only safe but also beneficial - provided that foods with high nutritional value are consumed. In the case of avocado, the positive effect is associated with the high content of unsaturated fats and fiber, which can gently modulate metabolic processes throughout the night.
