Tofig Aliyev, who became world-famous for his unique jump, spoke about making the historic decision

In childhood I was very active, so my parents enrolled me in gymnastics to keep me busy. Besides, this was my grandfather's wish - for one of his grandchildren to become a gymnast.

As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated in an interview with Baku TV by member of the Azerbaijan national tumbling team, Azerbaijani gymnast Tofig Aliyev, who gained worldwide fame thanks to his unique jump.

The athlete spoke about how he made this historic decision.

"There are moments when a person chooses not a gold medal, but the opportunity to go down in history. That's exactly what my coach and I chose. After the qualifying stage I was in first place. In the rest room I told head coach Adil Huseynzade that I wanted to perform a triple flow - a triple twist and triple somersault. At first he thought I was joking, but when he understood how serious I was, he agreed," noted T. Aliyev.
