Minister of Justice: There is a Shortage of Lawyers in Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan continues to face a shortage of lawyers, and by several indicators the country lags behind the average European level.
As Report reports, this was stated by the Minister of Justice of Azerbaijan Farid Ahmadov, speaking at the international forum LEGIS.
According to him, higher educational institutions of the country graduate about 1,400 lawyers annually. "In Azerbaijan, overall there are 14 lawyers per 100 thousand citizens. Compared to other countries, this indicator is lower for us. If we talk about the number of advocates, there are 28 advocates per 100 thousand citizens. By these indicators we lag behind Europe. In addition, in Azerbaijan there are 1.5 notaries per 100 thousand citizens. Also, the number of judges is approximately half compared to European countries. Only in terms of the number of prosecutor's office employees do our indicators correspond to a number of European states," the minister noted.
