Washing raw chicken turned out to be deadly dangerous
Specialists from the Food Safety Information Council (FSIC) of Australia have urged people not to wash chicken before cooking.
As BAKU.WS reports with reference to Lenta.ru, the 9news.com publication writes about how washing raw poultry has turned out to be deadly dangerous.
According to experts, washing chicken before cooking creates a high risk of food poisoning, as salmonella or E. coli may be present on the bird's skin. If the meat is washed, bacteria will spread throughout the kitchen. FSIC Council Chair Julian Cox added that chicken is processed during production, so there is no need to additionally wash it in the kitchen sink.
To protect against food poisoning, Cox advised thawing poultry in the refrigerator or microwave in a container that prevents liquid leaking from the chicken from contaminating other foods or work surfaces. In addition, he recommended making sure the bird is completely thawed before cooking.
"Make sure that juices from raw poultry do not come into contact with other foods, especially desserts or salads that will not be reheated before consumption," the expert also warned.
