A simple way to improve mood for women has been named
Japanese scientists found that during a run, music with a pronounced rhythm increases speed and improves mood in women.
As BAKU.WS reports, the work was published in the journal Frontiers in Sports and Active Living (FSAL).
The experiment involved 38 students from the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences at Ryutsu Keizai University. Participants aged 18 to 21 performed two ten-minute runs on a treadmill: one to music with a high level of groove, the other to music with a low level.
The concept of "groove" in music describes a special sense of rhythmic flow that creates a desire to move, tap your feet, or dance. It's created by drums and bass when there's a perfect balance of predictability and surprise between them.
After each run, participants evaluated their mood and subjective perception of the music. It turned out that women under the influence of groovy music ran slightly faster and reported increased vigor and vitality. Men did not demonstrate such changes.
According to the authors, the effect is related to the fact that women are generally more sensitive to musical stimuli. Researchers note that energetic music can be a useful tool for coaches and fitness instructors: it increases motivation, improves well-being, and contributes to forming habits of regular physical activity.
