Scientists have detected signs of an impending terrible catastrophe from deep within the Earth

Volcanic activity on the planet could lead to a global catastrophe, scientists warn. This is reported by CNN, citing the results of a new study.
According to the TV channel, experts have identified a high probability that this century will see a supervolcano eruption comparable in scale to the tragedy of 1815, when the Tambora volcano exploded in Indonesia. That catastrophe caused a sharp cooling, crop failures, and mass starvation.
Geological signals indicate active processes in the Earth's interior that could lead to dramatic climate changes and the death of millions. Scientists estimate the probability of such an event in the 21st century at approximately one in six.
A supervolcanic eruption can release hundreds of cubic kilometers of ash and gas into the atmosphere, darken the sun, crash temperatures on the planet, and cause a global food crisis. Agriculture, ecosystems, and the lives of billions of people are at risk.
