Evening meals directly affect sleep quality and can cause insomnia. Endocrinologist and nutritionist Oksana Mikhaleva told "Gazeta.Ru" about which foods should be excluded from the diet before bedtime.

According to the specialist, caffeine is found not only in coffee and strong tea, but also in chocolate. Therefore, to fall asleep easier, it's better to avoid these products in the evening.

In addition, fatty foods negatively affect sleep - fast food, fried dishes, fatty meat, and heavy sauces. They take longer to digest, overload the gastrointestinal tract, and cause discomfort, interfering with proper rest.

An excess of protein in the evening menu is also dangerous for sleep. "Large portions of protein food activate the digestive system and create a feeling of heaviness, which complicates the process of falling asleep," explained Mikhaleva.

The doctor also emphasized that not only the choice of foods is important, but also the timing of meals. It's better to plan dinner 2-3 hours before sleep: late eating increases the work of the digestive system and interferes with the normal production of hormones responsible for metabolism, which makes it difficult for the body to prepare for sleep.
