Named a popular drink that can cause bad breath

British dentist Nairi Whitley warned about the negative consequences of consuming coffee with milk for oral health. According to the Daily Mirror, such a combination can not only cause bad breath but also cause serious damage to teeth.
The specialist explained that the combination of coffee and milk contributes to the drying out of the oral mucosa. This creates an ideal environment for active bacterial reproduction and the formation of sulfur-containing compounds, which are the main source of unpleasant odor.
The dentist pointed out that coffee itself has increased acidity, which negatively affects tooth enamel and contributes to plaque formation. The situation becomes even more critical when adding sugar or flavored syrups – these ingredients significantly increase the likelihood of developing cavities and other dental problems.
"It's best to drink coffee without sugar and milk, and also limit its volume to 400 ml per day," recommends Dr. Whitley.
After consuming coffee, the expert advises rinsing the mouth with clean water to restore the acid-alkaline balance and remove the remnants of the drink. It is important to refrain from brushing teeth for 30 minutes after coffee to avoid damaging the enamel, which temporarily softens under the influence of acids.
The specialist is particularly concerned about the problem of chronic dry mouth. Regular consumption of coffee with milk can weaken the protective functions of saliva, which plays a crucial role in fighting pathogenic microorganisms and neutralizing the acidic environment.
