Food substance that reduces aggression has been identified

Omega-3 fatty acids reduce aggression, including outbursts of anger and acute stress reactions. This was shown by a study published in the journal Aggression and Violent Behavior (AVB).
Omega-3 (particularly EPA and DHA) are essential polyunsaturated fatty acids found in nuts, olive oil, and fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, and herring. Scientists have long associated their consumption with strengthening the heart, brain, and immune system. The new work confirms that the influence of these substances extends to behavior as well.
Scientists reached this conclusion by analyzing data from 29 previously published studies. They covered nearly four thousand participants - from schoolchildren to adults in clinical and forensic medical institutions. The results showed that omega-3 can suppress aggressive behavior regardless of age, gender, diagnosis, dosage, or duration of treatment.
Researchers note that omega-3 effectively reduces both reactive (emotional) aggression and proactive aggression - planned, purposeful behavior. According to scientists, EPA and DHA serve as potentially valuable tools when working with people prone to irritability, hot temper, or violence.
The study authors emphasize that the problem of aggressive behavior is particularly relevant in schools, clinics, and correctional facilities. Increasing omega-3 consumption - through food or certified supplements - may be recommended for people experiencing chronic stress or difficulties controlling emotions.
