Over 100 cases of a new type of coronavirus have been detected in Russia

114 cases of infection with the new XFG coronavirus variant have been registered in Russia.

As reported by Russian media citing Rospotrebnadzor, more than half of the infections (54%) are in Moscow. At the same time, the level of threat to public health is assessed as low.

According to the agency, the XFG strain is characterized by a mild course of the disease - hoarseness is often observed among the symptoms. However, the virus is characterized by a high degree of contagiousness.

The first case of XFG infection was recorded on January 27, 2025 in Canada. In June, the World Health Organization included this variant in the list of "variants under monitoring".
