Doctor explained which foods should be avoided in hot weather

British dietitian Kelly Chrysir shared valuable recommendations with Wellness Pulse about which foods will help you better cope with summer heat, and which ones are better to avoid.
According to the expert, on hot days the body needs foods with high moisture content. Fruits, vegetables, berries, and leafy greens will become true allies in the fight against heat. Refreshing smoothies based on coconut water with the addition of frozen fruits and protein components – Greek yogurt or protein powder – can be an excellent option.
At the same time, the dietitian warns against consuming foods high in sodium. Meat snacks, pretzels, crackers, and chips can significantly hinder the body's hydration process, which is especially dangerous in hot weather.
Dr. Chrysir paid special attention to beverages. She strongly recommends limiting the consumption of alcohol and caffeinated drinks due to their diuretic effect.
"For every cup of coffee or cocktail consumed, an equal amount of water should be consumed. The goal is to prevent dehydration, not try to replenish it," the specialist emphasized.
It is equally important to control sugar consumption. Confectionery and sweet carbonated drinks contribute to accelerated fluid loss and can cause deterioration in well-being due to sharp fluctuations in blood sugar levels. The dietitian also noted that sugar is often hidden in sports drinks that are positioned as means for restoring water balance.
