Well-known Russian gastroenterologist and hepatologist Sergey Vyalov debunked common myths about the benefits of honey that flood the internet. In his Telegram channel, the expert shared unexpected facts about this popular product.

According to the specialist, honey consists of 80 percent sugar, and its protein content is only one-tenth of a percent. Notably, even this small percentage of protein can have a dual effect: on one hand, it can strengthen the immune system, and on the other hand, it can trigger allergic reactions.

Vyalov emphasized that honey's effect on the body largely depends on where the honey-producing plants grow.

Regarding the organic acids in honey, the expert noted their potential benefits for microflora. However, their concentration is so low that they cannot reach the necessary sections of the gastrointestinal tract.

"The remaining microelements are so scarce that you would need to eat a whole pot of honey! Let's agree: honey is more about taste than health benefits. Don't justify your love for honey with health benefits!" the expert concluded.
