Ancient fortress over 2000 years old discovered in Egypt

In the eastern part of Egypt, in the Sinai desert, archaeologists have discovered an ancient military fortress from the Ptolemaic period. Excavations are being conducted in the Tell Abu Saifi area - a strategically important point on the eastern border of Ancient Egypt.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this is according to Interesting Engineering.
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the fortress served as a military and industrial hub. Massive fortifications, barracks, remains of shipyards, and a defensive moat more than two meters deep were found here. Archaeologists also discovered a section of a paved Roman road more than 800 meters long, connecting the eastern gate with the center of the fortress.
One of the important findings was the presence of four large lime kilns. This confirms that active construction and military activities were carried out in the fortress.
Historians note that Tell Abu Saifi played a key role in different epochs - from the reign of Ptolemy I (305 BCE) to the Arab conquest of Egypt. According to statements from Egyptian authorities, this could be where troops under the command of Alexander the Great were stationed.
This discovery allows for a deeper understanding of the defense system of Ancient Egypt and emphasizes the strategic importance of the eastern borders of the state.
