Iranian smugglers detained with 13 kg of drugs in the Caspian Sea

As a result of a joint special operation by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan, an attempt to smuggle over 13 kg of drugs and 4,400 drug-containing tablets across the Caspian Sea was prevented.
According to Baku.ws, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs press service, during an operation conducted by police and border guards in Sumgayit city on the Caspian Sea coast, Iranian citizens - 32-year-old Gaffar Gyzyl and 34-year-old Behzat Garanejat were detained. In their Yamaha motor boat, 11 kg 680 g of marijuana laced with psychotropic substances, 1 kg 510 g of heroin, and 4,400 methadone tablets were discovered.
The detainees stated that they had obtained the drugs in Iran's coastal province of Gumushan and smuggled them into Azerbaijan through the neutral zone of the Azerbaijani-Turkmen border on the Caspian Sea for financial gain.
It was established that Gaffar Gyzyl and Behzat Garanejat, besides being fishermen, are among the main individuals who periodically smuggle drugs into the country.
Police officers continue operational activities to identify and detain other members of the organized group that attempted to smuggle drugs into the country.
