US President Donald Trump has invited Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan to join as a co-founder of the "Peace Council" in the Gaza Strip.

This was reported on the social network X by the head of the Communications Department of the Turkish Presidential Administration, Burhanettin Duran.

"In Resolution No. 2803, the UN Security Council decided to support the Comprehensive Plan to end the conflict in Gaza, announced by US President Donald Trump. As part of this initiative, a 'Peace Council' and other bodies responsible for ensuring security and reconstruction are being established in Gaza. On January 16, 2026, the US President, as the founding chairman of the 'Peace Council,' sent an invitation letter to our president to join as a co-founder of the council," he wrote.

Trump announced the formation of the "Peace Council" for the Gaza Strip the day before. Its creation is part of his peace plan for Gaza along with the deployment of international forces. The following day, the White House revealed the composition of the council. It includes, in particular, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. Each member of the Executive Council will oversee a specific area for the stabilization and long-term success of Gaza, including "strengthening governance capacity, regional relations, reconstruction, attracting investments, large-scale financing, and capital mobilization."
