Leila Aliyeva spoke at the "Green Energy Projects" session
On March 3, a session titled "Green Energy Projects" was held at the Baku Congress Center within the framework of the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to AZERTAG, speaking at the event, Leyla Aliyeva touched upon the issue of the Caspian Sea, noting that this matter is causing increasing concern with each passing year.
"I must say that this problem concerns not only us and the other countries neighboring the Caspian Sea. The Caspian Sea is, in essence, a mirror of the broader global ecosystem. Therefore, if the Caspian Sea is experiencing problems, it means that the global ecosystem is also in trouble. Of course, this is a cause for great alarm. However, I am an advocate of positive thinking only, so I am confident that together we will be able to do everything possible to ensure that the level of the Caspian Sea rises again, and we will not allow it to disappear, as happened with the Aral Sea and Lake Urmia," she added.
Leyla Aliyeva noted that over the past 100 years, the number of seals in the Caspian has decreased from 1 million to 200,000 individuals. She also reported that our country is actively investing in renewable energy projects, and our goal is to become a regional green energy hub.
Director of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy Cristina Lobillo Borrero stated that the implementation of renewable clean technologies enhances energy security by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and protects citizens and industry from price volatility, noting that these changes are also an indicator of new industrial opportunities and long-term stability.
Director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy Javid Abdullayev, speaking about Azerbaijan's renewable energy potential, noted that work is being carried out in the development of bioenergy, geothermal resources, and green hydrogen. He also brought to attention that within the framework of international cooperation, key operational documents are being prepared for transforming Karabakh, East Zangezur, and Nakhchivan into green energy zones.
General Director of SOCAR Green, a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, Elmir Musayev, speaking about the company's activities, reported that their main goal is cooperation with international partners for the decarbonization of oil and gas facilities and the consolidation of expert knowledge in Azerbaijan.
Director of Masdar Azerbaijan LLC Murad Sadikhov, Business Development Director of ACWA Power Polina Lyubomirova, Chief Financial Manager of bp for the Azerbaijan–Georgia–Turkey region Ayla Azizova, Executive Director of the Xlinks project James Humphrey, Director of the International Finance Corporation for the Western Balkans and South Caucasus countries Wiebke Schloemer, and others spoke about prospects in the field of renewable energy in their presentations.
