In Baku, taxi drivers are protesting against fines: a mass strike is being prepared

Baku taxi drivers intend to suspend work on April 2 in protest against measures taken by the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA).
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Xəzər TV, this was announced by the head of the Taxi Drivers Union Elshad Eldarov. According to him, drivers face significant fines: 100 manats for dropping off passengers in bus lanes and 80 manats for stopping next to them. This leads to serious financial losses and complicates their work.
Taxi drivers emphasize that, despite having official permits, conditions for their activities continue to deteriorate. They demand the creation of more convenient places for picking up and dropping off passengers, especially the elderly, families with children, and citizens with disabilities.
In turn, AYNA representatives reminded that bus lanes are intended exclusively for public transport and emergency services, and taxis and private cars have no right to enter them. The agency also noted that more than 130 official taxi stands operate in the city, and new parking zones are planned to open soon, especially near universities, shopping centers, and transport hubs.
