Don't believe your eyes, or How not to get hooked by fakes

In the digital age, social networks have become one of the main platforms for information exchange. However, along with convenience and accessibility, they have brought new challenges – the spread of rumors and disinformation. Particularly dangerous are fake videos and news created using artificial intelligence, which can easily mislead users.
Dean of the Faculty of Journalism at Baku State University Vugar Zifaroglu, notes that in the 21st century, in conditions of continuous information flow, it is extremely important to be able to analyze and select reliable sources.
"One should only trust professional media, where information is verified from at least three reliable sources. On social networks, anyone can share personal opinions, but when it comes to serious issues, one must rely exclusively on competent journalists and media structures," he emphasizes.
Although videos created using deepfake technology are difficult to distinguish with the naked eye, careful analysis can reveal some inconsistencies. It's also worth being cautious about news spread under the guise of "citizen journalism," especially on the TikTok platform. Emotional manipulations in headlines are another sign of potentially false information.
Experts urge users to show responsibility and not spread unverified information. Improving media literacy and conscious content consumption are becoming key factors in the digital age.
