USA has wanted Greenland for a long time? Putin: This is not a joke!

Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the US intentions to annex Greenland, noting that such plans are not at all new or extravagant. According to him, discussions about the possible annexation of Greenland have been ongoing in American politics for decades.
Putin emphasized that back in the 1960s, the US administration considered the possibility of annexing not only Greenland but also Iceland, though the idea did not receive support in Congress at that time. He also recalled that when the United States purchased Alaska in 1867, American media ridiculed the deal, calling it "icy madness" and a "box of polar bears." Nevertheless, today Alaska is considered an important part of the United States, which, according to Putin, clearly shows how the perception of such geopolitical moves changes over time.
The President also reminded that in 1910, a trilateral deal was being prepared between the US, Germany, and Denmark, under which Greenland could have come under Washington's control. During World War II, the US established military bases on the island to protect against the Nazi threat, and after the war even offered to buy Greenland from Denmark.
"These plans have long historical roots," Putin said. "It is obvious that the United States will continue to advance its geostrategic, military-political, and economic interests in the Arctic on a systematic basis."
