The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan responded to the unfounded statements made by the head of France's foreign policy department, Jean-Noël Barrot.

This was reported by BAKU.WS with reference to information from the MFA.

"We strongly condemn yet another attempt by France's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot, who spoke on October 13 at the OECD Global Forum on Building Trust and Reinforcing Democracy, to make unfounded accusations against Azerbaijan.

This demonstrates that the French side still cannot abandon its confrontational rhetoric in relations with our country.

The accusations against Azerbaijan of interfering in the struggle of the peoples of New Caledonia and other French overseas territories for their rights are completely unfounded. Attempts to groundlessly attribute various positions regarding processes taking place in France's overseas territories to foreign interference are aimed at obscuring the will and concerns of the populations of these territories.

It would be more appropriate for French representatives who speak about democracy, human rights, and the rule of law to first pay attention to the consistent application of these principles in France's own policies.

We call on the French side to stop making unfounded accusations against Azerbaijan and to uphold the principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality, and non-interference in internal affairs in international relations," the statement of the MFA of the Republic of Azerbaijan reads.
