The creation of the Global South Platform was one of the important issues facing COP29.

As APA reports, this was stated by the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues, Mukhtar Babayev, during his speech at the founding conference of the Global South NGO Platform.

"Under the leadership of our President, the COP29 conference was well organized and produced successful results. We aimed to have NGOs, youth and women's organizations work together with us in implementing the priorities of inclusivity and transparency. In 2024, numerous intensive meetings were held with civil society throughout the country and on UN platforms. Throughout this process, we constantly felt the support of NGOs. The main goal of COP29 was to obtain the consent of developed countries to provide financial support to developing countries. We aimed to secure donor funding of 300 billion dollars. Currently, billions of dollars from the private sector are allocated to the hydrocarbon market. The Loss and Damage Fund is intended to compensate for financial programs, and this second goal was also successfully achieved during COP29. The third issue was the creation of the Global South Platform, and its establishment became a very important event for the development of cooperation," he added.
