In 2027, the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will pass to Uzbekistan, and in 2028 - to Azerbaijan.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan currently form the CIS chairmanship troika.

Since gaining independence, Azerbaijan will chair the CIS for the first time. In previous years, one of the main factors preventing Azerbaijan from assuming this function was the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.

Thus, Azerbaijan will hold the chairmanship within the framework of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and the CIS.

In addition, in 2027, Azerbaijan will assume the chairmanship of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the organization's summit will be held in the country. In 2028, Azerbaijan will also host the European Political Community summit.
