EC: Gas and green energy will remain at the center of EU-Azerbaijan cooperation
The European Union will continue cooperation with Azerbaijan in the gas sector, while paying more attention to the development of clean energy.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was communicated to Report's European bureau by the European Commission, commenting on the recent EU-Azerbaijan High-Level Energy Dialogue meeting.
At the fourth EU-Azerbaijan energy dialogue meeting held on October 2 in Brussels, the parties, according to Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy, discussed prospects for gas supplies, development of renewable energy sources, electricity grids, green energy corridors, energy efficiency, and methane emissions reduction.
"This is a regular energy dialogue during which we confirmed the continuation of our cooperation in the gas sector, but also focused on clean energy, continuing the line outlined during Commissioner Jørgensen's visit (to Baku - ed.) in March," a European Commission spokesperson told Report.
In March in Baku, Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen and Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov co-chaired the meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the Green Energy Advisory Council.
At that time, the parties discussed both natural gas supplies and energy security, as well as the development of renewable energy, energy efficiency, hydrogen, and methane emissions reduction.
The Azerbaijani side reported that in 2025, 12.8 billion cubic meters of gas were delivered to Europe, and in the first eight months of 2026, more than 7 billion cubic meters. This year, Azerbaijani gas began flowing to Germany and Austria for the first time, bringing the number of EU countries receiving gas from Azerbaijan to ten.
